There are a number of informative websites that look at tobacco control issues in New Zealand.

Following are a number of useful websites that highlight the harms of second-hand smoke exposure. The sites also suggest actions that can be followed to make various environments, such as the home and car, smokefree.

The US Environmental Protection Agency website describes what second-hand smoke is, its associated health effects and shows you how to reduce exposure to second-hand smoke in various settings.

The American Cancer Society website outlines what second-hand smoke is, why it is a health problem, and the settings in which second-hand smoke is a health issue, such as the home, workplace and public places.


The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (USA) website is an online toolkit that provides people with ideas for reducing exposure to second-hand smoke.

The NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service (Australian) has produced a wide range of factsheets related to tobacco and second-hand smoke. The factsheets are available in several languages.

• This site contains a paper outlining the Ontario Medical Association’s position on second-hand smoke. It highlights the health effects caused by second-hand smoke among both adults and children, along with issues surrounding second-hand smoke exposure in the workplace.
